The Tadeshi Vinyards In Up Country Maui Has Been Providing Exceptional Wines Since1974

by Maui Mehndi Artists on 06/23/12

Weather you are lucky enough to live on Maui, or able to visit for a spell, a visit to the Tadeshi Winery in Ulupalakua, Maui should be at the top of your "to do" list. First of all the drive itself is incomparable, as the Vineyard sits a good way up Haleakala volcano. As you drive up through emerald green pastures you are able to get a large view of Maui coasts, all the way from the North to the Southern and Western facing shores.

Tedeschi Vineyards, is the Valley Isle’s only commercial winery, hosting more than 180,000 visitors a year.  The Winery started growing grapes in 1974 on the slopes of Haleakala. According to their website their "wines’ (are a) secret of success is the rich volcanic soil on the slopes of Haleakala. Without a traditional dormant season, we rely on the soil – along with patience and slow ripening – to produce grapes that showcase our regional characteristics: fresh, floral, tropical fruits and warm spices."

Their Maui Rose' sparkling wine is produced in the century-old French process of “methode champenoise,” requiring years of aging and delicate handling to create the famous tiny bubbles...and without the chemicals! They also create a delicious Framboise Raspberry Wine. Perfect for desert or a picnic!

To learn more about the Tadeshi Vineyards visit them in person or online at http://mauiwine.com

Want to promote natural UV protection for your skin! It's so easy to do with a homemade body scrub!

by Maui Mehndi Artists on 06/23/12

Did you know that skin cancer is more likely to grow on dead skin cells?...and your skin has a 30-40 layers of dead skin cells at a time. Luckily dead skin cells are easy to eliminate simply by exfoliating...not to mention more glowing, youthful looking skin. Proper exfoliation (combined with a proper skin care and diet regimen) can also eliminate acne.

There are two types of exfoliation: mechanical and "chemical". Mechanical Exfoliation means exfoliation using an abrasive material such as salt, almond meal, apricot kernels, loofah, etc. Chemical Exfoliation simply means using natural enzymes to gently "eat" away at dead skin cells. These enzymes can include salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid and other fruit enzymes from pineapple, papaya, cranberry and pomegranate. At Maui Mobile Spa we believe that weekly "chemical" exfoliation on the face is one the best tools we have for maintaining a youthful, acne free complexion. Mechanical exfoliation can also beneficial for the face, but only if one is using soft abrasives, as harsher abrasive materials can damage the delicate facial skins blood vessels. We prefer to use mechanical exfoliants on the body; which is why our signature spa treatments are UV ray protecting body scrubs!

Body scrubs are beneficial for many reasons. Obviously they eliminate dead skin cells, which makes skin glow and look more youthful. They also increase the bodies circulation, which increases the bodies metabolism and ability to detoxify. Body scrubs contain healthy botanical oils that leave the skin perfectly moisturized.

Body scrubs are easy to use and make. Simply jump into the shower to thoroughly wet the body. Turn off the water and apply the body scrub to the skin massaging the skin quickly in light, circular motions. Make sure to rub areas where you have cellulite or circulation issues, as the body scrub will greatly benefit these areas. Here is a recipe for an easy to make AHA enzyme body scrub that is both a mechanical and "chemical" exfoliator:
1/2 Cup Salt (exfoliator and detoxifyer)
1/2 Cup Sugar (exfoliator and AHA enzyme exfoliator)
2-3 Tbs. Oil (grapeseed, seseme, olive, sunflower, coconut, etc)
3-6 drops of your choice of essential oils. Lavender and tea tree detoxify. Rose mary and grapefruit are good for circulation and cellulite.
*Simply mix everything together very thoroughly in a small bowl.
